Man sought in beating of gay men in Salt Lake

The Salt Lake City Police Department is looking for anyone with information on the identity of an unknown suspect involved in a potential hate crime last month.

Police are looking for a man suspected in a group beating of two gay men last month near Ensign Peak.
The victims, both in their early 20s, were with a relative Aug. 9 at a lookout point on Churchill Drive in Salt Lake City, where they met and became acquainted with the suspect, police said.
One of the victims took a photo of the suspect and the other victim together. When the suspect asked the victims if they were gay, they confirmed that they were and the suspect, along with several other men, began beating them, police said.
One victim suffered "significant facial trauma," including a broken bone near his eye, said Salt Lake City police spokeswoman Lara Jones. He has undergone reconstructive surgery.
